Who it’s for

This is the ideal credit card for anyone who has accumulated high-interest debt on one or several credit cards and want to consolidate at one low rate. Even if you don’t have debt, there are still some nice features of the Halifax Plus, such as the introductory offer on purchases and special offers, which make it worth considering.

To apply for a Halifax Plus credit card, you must be at least 18 years old, a UK resident, and have a UK bank account. If you expect to be approved, then you should have decent credit rating.

Balance transfers

The balance transfer offer is the main strength of Halifax Plus credit card with 0% p.a. interest for a whopping 17 months on balances transferred. This is much longer than you can expect from many other balance transfers, but it is not the longest deal on the market currently. You do have to pay a 3% balance transfer fee, but this is standard throughout the industry. After your 17 months are up, you will pay annual interest at 16.94% p.a..

Got debt, but still need a card to make purchases? The Halifax Plus has a nice deal for you: 0% p.a. interest for 3 months on purchases. After the introductory rate is up, you will go to 16.94% p.a. variable. Like with almost all credit cards, you can avoid paying any interest if you pay your bill in full each month.

Cash advances

Only use the Halifax Plus for cash advances if it is an absolute emergency because the interest rate charged is a whopping 27.95% p.a.. You don’t get any interest free period for cash advances so the interest starts adding up immediately. There is also the industry standard 3% fee on cash advances.

Security & fraud protection

The Halifax Plus promises you an internet fraud guarantee and also active fraud monitoring. While these are security features you should expect from any credit card, it is nice to have the promise reiterated. It is worth investing in their Card Care insurance program. For £18 per year, you can get insurance for your Halifax Plus card that covers many costs associated with a lost purse/wallet including the £22 for replacing your driver’s license, up to £100 in cash, £50 for your actual purse/wallet, and up to £100 for emergency communication costs.

The biggest attraction of the Halifax Plus credit card is the balance transfer offer, which is one of the most competitive currently available on the market. They have also thrown in a few really nice perks to make it attractive to most customers including a very useful introductory offer on purchases.
