Best Features of the Bank of Scotland Plus Credit Card

Our Review

The Bank of Scotland Plus credit card offers you a chance to get out of debt with its incredible 0% p.a. interest for 18 months on balance transfers. However, they have also included several other major pluses which make the BoS Plus card worth considering including 0% p.a. for 3 months on purchases. With a good APR and nice perks, this is a great all-around choice for consumers who need a good credit card offer to get their finances into shape.

Who it’s for

This credit card is especially good for anyone who has accumulated a lot of high interest debt on other credit cards. However, there are lots of perks to Bank of Scotland Plus card which make it a good choice for people with smaller debts and who want to make more purchases.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Bank of Scotland Plus credit card, you must be at least 18 years old, a UK resident, and have a regular income.

Balance transfers

Bank of Scotland’s Plus credit card offers one of the longest interest free introductory periods in the UK. With the very generous 0% p.a. for 18 months, you can save a lot of money on your outstanding debts. There is a 3% balance transfer fee which is standard amongst the industry. Just make sure that you pay your minimums on time and stay within your credit limit or you will lose this great deal! After the introductory period is over, your balance transfer will be subjected to your purchase rate.

Purchases

0% p.a. on purchases for 3 months isn’t the best deal available, but it is a nice additional plus to the long term balance transfer deal. After the 3 months are up, your purchase rate will revert to 16.94% p.a. variable. Again, this isn’t the best deal, but it isn’t bad either.

Cash advances

It is hard to find a credit card which is good for cash advances – and the Bank of Scotland’s Plus card is not one of them. You pay 3% for the cash withdrawal fee. Then you pay 27.95% p.a. on the amount withdrawn. Cash advances aren’t part of the introductory deal so use this feature sparsely!

Security & fraud protection

Bank of Scotland has a program which makes shopping online even more secure. You choose a security question which must be answered before making purchases at participating online merchants. With the Care Card service, which costs £18 per year, you can also protect yourself from theft or loss. As with any credit card, you can expect to be protected against unauthorised purchases and online fraud.

Conclusion

At 18 months, the Bank of Scotland Plus offers one of the best balance transfer deals in the UK. Additional perks like the 0% p.a. purchase rate for 3 months and special discount deals for cardholders make the card extremely competitive.
