Bank of Scotland account holders have the option of an extremely competitive credit card in the form of the Bank of Scotland Advantage credit card. There are some really nice benefits to the card, especially the 0% p.a. interest for 13 months balance transfers and 0% p.a. on purchases for 13 months. After that, you will pay a very reasonable 17.95% p.a.. That makes the Bank of Scotland credit card a great choice for those who want to consolidate debt, but continue to use the card to make more purchases.
Who it’s for
If you have regular income, use your credit card frequently, and have accumulated some debt, then it is worth considering this Bank of Scotland credit card. You will need to have a good credit rating though if you want to be considered for this credit card.
To be eligible for a Bank of Scotland credit card, you must either have an account with them into which you pay at least £1,000 every month or an Ultimate Reward current account. You must also be at least 18 years of age and a UK resident. Note that the offer is not extended to certain types of accounts including Bank of Scotland Flexible, Flexible Plus current accounts, and Bank of Scotland Currency accounts.
For all those who have accumulated debt, the Advantage credit card from the Bank of Scotland can be a good choice for consolidation and maybe saving some money on interest too. They have a good deal of 0% p.a. interest for 13 months. This is a good offer, but there are other cards with longer balance transfer offers currently available. After the introductory period, you will pay the same rate for balance transfers as you do for purchases (17.95% p.a.). There is a 3% fee for balance transfers, which is standard for any card on the market. Keep in mind that you must pay your minimums and stay within your credit limit to keep this special introductory deal! Just one late payment can end up costing you a lot. If you want to transfer a balance a later date (when the introductory offer is no longer available), you can do so at the rate of 17.95% p.a..
Bank of Scotland offers a great deal for purchases: 0% p.a. for 13 months. Once the introductory offer expires the interest charged will be 17.95% p.a.. You can avoid paying interest all together if you just pay your bill in full each month.
The Bank of Scotland Advantage credit card isn’t so great for cash advances. Like with most other credit cards, there is an immediate 3% fee. Then, you will be charged 27.95% p.a. interest on the amount of cash withdrawn. The introductory offer for purchases does not apply to cash advances. You will need to pay off the minimums for cash advances with your monthly bill. Keep in mind that if you don’t pay these minimums, then you will lose the introductory deals for your purchases and balances. It is best to save cash advances for when you really need them!
Security & fraud protection
When it comes to online fraud protection, Bank of Scotland has you covered. You will not be held responsible for online purchases made without your approval. They also have a special program with many online retailers where you set up a security question for making purchases. Bank of Scotland does monitor your accounts for suspicious activity, which is vital for protecting against fraud. Because of this, it is a good idea to call them before you go on holiday abroad!
As with all other credit cards, Bank of Scotland must meet the regulations under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. This means that the credit card company and supplier will be equally liable for any fraudulent purchases so you will be protected. Unfortunately, Bank of Scotland does not offer any credit card insurance plans such as for when you travel.
Bank of Scotland offers a very competitive option for anyone with some accumulated debt, but who still needs to make purchases. The introductory rate can really help you save some money and get your finances back under control. Just make sure that you pay all your minimums on time and stay within your limit so you can keep this great deal – and watch out for the cash advance rates!
