Sainsburys Home Insurance

Sainsburys Home Insurance

Sainsburys home insurance promises significant savings on home insurance and includes free emergency and legal cover for the first 12 months. Contents cover is unlimited but our test customers found premiums were slightly higher than other insurers.
  • Home insurance

  • Buildings insurance

  • Contents insurance

  • Accidental damage insurance

  • 5% discount for online ordering

  • Free Nectar points

  • Free emergency and legal cover
Sainsburys home insurance promises to save an average of £100 on your premium, and there's a 5% discount for online ordering together with free Nectar points if you buy the policy.

The application form is clear and very quick to complete, but the premiums are unlikely to have you dancing naked in the street with joy: our urban couple would pay £303.49 for unlimited contents (with a £7,500 high risk items limit) while our suburban family would pay £255.48 for buildings and contents cover. However, if you also want home emergency and legal expenses cover then Sainsburys home insurance is worth a look: both are free for the first 12 months of your policy.

Summary

With Sainsbury's home insurance you could beneftit from a no claims discount of up to 30%, plus a special 10% discount for buying your insurance online.

Independent research conducted by Consumer Intelligence in 2004 showed that Sainsbury's are up to 33% cheaper than other leading home insurance companies.

Bad weather, accidents and over-exuberant Christmas guests are all a threat to homes during the festive season, says Sainsbury's Home Insurance.

Research by the insurance provider revealed that over the past five years just over four million people have suffered damage to their homes at Christmas.

Over 1.57 million people claim their homes were damaged by over-excited children or by adults who had too much to drink.

Sainsbury's also found over 400,000 fires have been caused by people trying to light their festive Christmas pudding.

Karen Preston, home insurance manager at Sainsbury?s Bank, said: "The festive season should be one of the highlights of the year for most people, but the number of insurance claims made in December can often increase, partly because of damage caused by bad weather or Christmas related accidents in the home.

"Before the celebrations begin, people should ensure that their homes are protected as well as possible from bad weather and festive calamities".

Sainsbury's also recommends moving delicate objects out of the reach of children, never leaving the cooker unattended and keeping candles away from Christmas trees.

Well my renewal time is here for buildings & contents and while i am not totally priced obsessed i do expect to get a reasonable deal from hunting around and comparing cover.

This year the insurer i have been with for some years, Sainsbury Bank decided to increase my premium by some 20% over last year

Why? presumably because some people let them get away with it I guess. Anyway frowning on the idea of paying £462 i did the usual supermarket / confused tango and come up with a price for the same cover from halifax of £276 and from Esure of £320.

Interesting that Halifax consistantly come up in this thread as the cheapest, are they having some kind of push for new business i wonder ?

Anyway the last part of the tango involves talking to a broker and haggling with your existing insurer.

The broker i can see may be worthwhile but would anyone really expect an existing supplier to drop their renewal quote by approx 40% ?

Anyone have any experience of a company dropping this much ?

Have just managed to save £70 on my Building Insurance. The first time I used Insure SuperMarket, it stated that Sainsbury provided the cheapest Building Insurance. However subsequently when I used Insure Supermarket, they consistenly stated that Zurich Insurance was cheaper.

I still went ahead and asked Sainsbury for a Quote and obtained a Building Insurance for a 2 Bed house for £60 with an excess of £150. They also throw in Legal Assistance and Emergency cover for free

The funny thing is Sainsbury resell insurance from Halifax. Asked Halifax for a quote and they quoted me £124 for the same. Called up thier customer service and asked why it was so, but did not get a satisfactory answer.

So I suggest do try Sainsbury Home Insurance and see if it gets your insurance down
