More Than Car Insurance

About More Than

MORE TH>N was launched in June 2001 bringing freshness and a new approach to the consumer financial services market. The company has developed into a modern, forward thinking financial brand but with the Royal Sun Alliance Insurance Group heritage, expertise and tradition behind them.

Royal & SunAlliance (RSA) is one of the world's oldest and most well-established insurance groups; and has been helping to secure the future of individuals and companies for nearly three hundred years.

More Than Car Insurance

More Than Car Insurance, as part of a large insurance company, (Royal and SunAlliance) tends to cater to low-risk drivers ? but if you qualify you could get a really good deal. They have some different features available that you don?t see everyday, such as a maximum no claims bonus for life, cover for breakdown anywhere in Europe, 24 hour legal counseling and free courtesy cars. They offer a £30 discount if you apply online and claim that you will save a maximum of £90 by switching to them. And they also say you could save up to 65% off your premiums in one year using their motor insurance policy. They cover only drivers of standard cars, and cover an age range that is comparable to all the other standard motor insurance providers. Also, if you insure your partner?s car along with your own you can get some really good bonus deals that are not always offered by other companies.

Their website is all about savings. You can sift through the information they provide online to find out how much you can save with them ? and they do seem to have some unique and money-saving features.

Summary

More Than?s car insurance policies offer a number of benefits that are not always available from other providers, with their No Claims Bonus arrangements potentially saving you significant amounts on the cost of your insurance. They also implement a no fault policy so that you are not penalised should your car be damaged accidentally whilst parked - with most insurers an incident like this would affect your No Claims Bonus. They also offer 24-hour legal advice and medical and post-accident counselling helplines.

More Th>n?s website is well designed and easy to use with a range of policies available including additional protection such as breakdown cover. On the website you can not only view policy and company information but also lease a car or obtain useful information on car buying and car maintenance. You can even retrieve a previous quote if you need a little bit of time to think about it.

I've been with More Than car insurance for 5 years, and everything seemed to be running fine until I changed my car about 3 months ago. I cancelled the policy after I sold my old car, but More Than did not explain all the pros and cons in relation to the NCB (No Claims Bonus) for life, which also got cancelled. However, later on I found out that I have to start everything all over again to start building my NCB protection for life. They could have suspended my policy until I got my new car. Anyway, luck of training caused this problem.

Now I got the new policy through More Than again via the telephone system, but after 5 days I found s cheaper deal by More Than on their website. So I took the web based offer and cancelled my existing policy within the cooling off period (14 days), and I am still awaiting the full refund. It is coming up to 3 months now and they keep saying that a cheque has been issued, but I haven't got anything as yet. I tried to contact their outsourced customer enquiries line abroad, but without much luck.

Overall, I must emphasise that they are still cheaper than other insurance companies; hence I am still with them! This is only applicable if you can put up with their customer service abroad; if you can, then I would suggest you take out an insurance policy with More Than.

UK based customer service is very good compared to abroad, but More Than is outsourcing their accounts and other departments to overseas call centres.

More Than two months after a serious car accident when I had to be cut out of my vehicle (other car totally at fault), I am still waiting for a settlement cheque. I only had a hire vehicle for three days and was left having to pay hire costs, pending uninsured costs going through solicitors. In the end I purchased another vehicle from my savings to save on hire costs. Despite repeated promises and written complaints (only one of which has been replied to through a standard letter), I am no further on. The total loss call centre is impossible to get through to. My next step is the Ombudsman.

One of my vehicles is insured with More Than car insurance, and I have earned full no claims bonus. The company are running a special offer which states that if you insure a second vehicle with it them it will also grant full NCB on the second policy. Over two hours spent on the telephone, and several letters of complaint later, I have still to receive an amended schedule and premium rebate in respect of my second vehicle insured with them. Their ploys are ridiculous - the last ploy - one of their reps telephoned me in order to check if I was an idiot who could be fobbed off. When she failed, she informed me that she was not authorised to grant my request, but her colleague on the next desk could. However, company policy prevented her from passing my letters over, and barred them discussing matters between themselves. I was told to write in again!

For insurance complaints one needs to formally complain to Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SR. A complaint form can be downloaded from www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk

My complaint is presently being processed. I should have completely stayed with Direct Line Insurance Co. Whilst they don't have an offer like More Than, they do currently run a special offer where your named drivers can build up NCB's for themselves through having been named on your insurance policy. Nice idea.
