Barclays Travel Insurance

Barclays doesn't just do banking: you can get your insurance there too if you want. Benefits include a low-cost single trip option for holidays lasting between one day and a month; an emergency medical helpline and optional extras such as winter sports cover and upgrades on cancellation and personal accident cover. You'll also get a 'personal incident manager' to process your claim and there's an emergency line to help you if any domestic crisis occurs while you're on holiday. As with all travel insurance policies, there are limitations too. Unlike some travel insurers, Barclays requires all its clients to be under 65. You must also not have made more than one claim on travel insurance during the preceding year.

Summary

For more information about Barclays travel insurance and to read the single and multi-trip policies in full, visit the Barclays personal banking site at www.barclays.co.uk. As with other online insurance providers there are preferential rates for buying online, although the site doesn't specify what they are in the banner which tells you that. There's also a 20% discount if your home contents insurance covers your possessions while you're away. The possessions section of the travel cover then doesn't apply so it's not exactly a straightforward discount on the policy, but the waiver is useful. In recognition of the UK's new insurance laws, Barclays will not recommend a particular policy to you but leave you to choose your own from the options outlined. And it's also a good idea, as always, to use your freedom of choice to investigate as many providers as you can before deciding on any particular policy or insurer.

Going on that much dreamed of longer trip to see the world? Don't throw your money away before you start on a cover that costs the earth. And don't skimp an get left at the ends of the earth with a poor man's policy either.

You may be planning to throw a rucksack on your back or go round the world in a little more comfort. whichever you will need the right insurance. the good news is that today's insurers offer policies specifically tailored to just that kind of trip.

Statistics reveal that it is not just students that take a break and live their dream seeing faraway destinations. an increasing number of us are seizing the opportunity to take a break from our increasingly hectic work lives. certainly from the uk alone, hundred of thousands are off every year.

Whatever you are thinking of doing - if it involves leaving the shores of blighty then you had better get yourself sorted with some dependable travel insurance. the risks associated with a longer trip are not so high as to put you off; but higher risk are associated with the longer time away, the variety of destinations you may visit and the varying levels of medical infrastructure and costs.

If there seems to be one sensible summary of advice - do not think of leaving without suitable insurance - you are going for long enough that you may well need it! if nothing else, having a good policy may costs you a few beers, but the peace of mind all the way round will be worth that.

Suitable policies can be labelled backpacker or adventurer or gap year.

I strongly recommend you go with a company like Barclays as they have a bricks and mortar presence so you can chat to someone if you want to.

Finally, remember that almost every insurer will allow you 14 days to decide if you need /suit the policy. usually you have to call them to cancel. so review it immediately just in case you need to take advantage.

Oh & have a great trip!
