I have had an Egg card for over 4 years now and I have never had a problem with them. Their online services are excellent, I have around 5 different accounts which I can access online and Egg offers one of the best services. The money manager system is an essential tool if you have more than one online account as logging into egg automatically shows your complete finance situation.

I'm happy with the Egg card so far. Very well known brand and they arranged transfer very easily. No annual fee.

I am a long time customer of Egg. I even have my mortgage through them. Up until recently I have never had an issue with the card, services, or the site, but since late 2005 I have had issues with incorrect interest charges applied (resolved), and cashback links from their site not working (unresolved).

Using the secure messaging to report these issues has been very time consuming, and the replies I have had back have been less than useful; some being down right insulting! It has taken numerous complaints to get staff to resolve issues, with one issue still going unresolved, despite proving this to be a system fault.

Let's just say I am now reviewing my options. Why should I pay for them to provide such a poor level of service? Come on Egg, sort it out!

I've just received the most incredible message from Egg when I queried an interest charge they made on my account, despite me paying the balance off in full:

Quote:
Dear Steven,

Due to a recent change in the way interest is calculated, additional payments no longer affect the amount of interest that's applied to your account.

The only way to avoid any interest charges is to have your direct debit set up to take the full statement balance every month. Please note though that this will only take effect after the first full direct debit payment has been called for.

If you'd like us to reset your regular payment to this method please let us know, allowing for a minimum of five working days before the payment date.

In light of the above I'd be unable to refund the interest charge.

Thanks for your message.

Regards,

Greg Meredith
Internet Customer Services

So basically, unless you pay the full balance by Direct Debit, it doesn't matter whether you pay it off in full by another method or not! And I certainly did not know about this beforehand!

I am absolutely incensed by this and would like to ask if anyone has any advice on what I can do about this, or whether anyone else has been told this or knew about it.

Right now I feel like cancelling both my Egg credit cards, my savings account and my loan (except I don't have the cash to pay off the loan yet).

Due to this new policy I would recommend all potential customers to avoid Egg like the plague. They are scammers.

Had you cleared the balance by the date required on your statement. If you had I would speak to them again and ask for a further explanation as to why interest was charged. Some facts appear to be missing.

The balance was paid in full by the due date - minimum payment by DD, the rest by BACS. There are no facts missing. It's simply the fact I didn't pay the full amount by DD.

I'm going to phone them tomorrow and give them one last chance before I take this further.

Hi,
I have just got an Egg Money card. Can someone tell me if you still get cashback of 1% on spending even if you have a positive balance?

we've just got our 18 year old son to get one.

great to start building up a good credit history.

1% cashback on everything ..all of the time regardless ( expect they may again repeat the prexmas 2% special offer)

also check on their site for favoured retailers where there are cashbacks of up to 20%.

4% interest on any positive balance ...which really is more or less as good as you can get anywhere

hole in the wall cash withdrawals at no charge.

our son has moved all his savings on to it and is using it for all of his purchases.

we believe this really is a great product.

Hmm. I took the plunge and applied for Egg Money. Got accepted instantly with a limit of £500. This compares with £1500 on both of my other two cards (Nationwide and Accucard).

It'll be OK for most spending but I'd have liked a bit more for flexibility (I wasn't planning to "pre-load" the account, simply use it as a credit card, so there's not much room to manouver... and will have to rethink what I do when car insurance (about £500!) etc comes up for renewal...

I'm planning to close the Accucard so I might see if Egg can then offer me a larger credit limit. Has anyone requested a limit increase on Egg Money and been given one?

I applied for my Egg credit card today and it said they will contact me within 72 hours. Oh well, a credit search wasted methinks. If you get an instant acceptance with a low limit, then I think my application will be binned.

I got an Egg Credit Card as soon as it was available. It works just like an ordinary credit card with no annual fee, and normal interest free period, plus they do not charge a fee for cash withdrawals. However, please watch out, as cash advances are not qualified for any interest free period.

So far I am happy.

Signed up to Egg in order to utilise their 0% balance transfer. Not a bad word to so about Egg apart from once your holiday period is over their interest rate is not as good as others. Customer service is excellent and their online management (of all their products) is excellent too.
