Although the AA are a brokerage it is actually cheaper to get insurance with them than going direct. I was with Churchill and received a renewal premium that seemed reasonable as it included a customer loyalty discount. I decided to shop around to compare prices anyway and went to the AA. They did get me a cheaper insurance premium but ...... it was with Churchill !!!!

It is cheaper to join as a new customer with brokers taking a cut than it is to go direct with a "loyalty" discount - CRAZY.

I was in an accident on the way to work. the other driver was 100% liable. I work 20 miles from my house in the middle of the country side, there is no chance of getting public transport due to the location of work. That is why I specifically requested and paid extra for the courtesy car. When I requested the use of the courtesy car during trying to sort my claim I was refused. I was then asked by a member of the AA "customer services" team if I had ever heard of public transport. I found the whole experience of trying to claim very stressful, on top of the fact my car had been written off. Each time I called AA I was passed to the brokers then back again. No company was willing to take responsibility for my claim. I would never use AA services again and their complaints department were also completely useless and unwilling to appologise for the stress caused.

I had been with the AA since passing my test, and I had my car insurance with them and had breakdown cover, parts, labour and tyre insurance. All in all they had a few pennies out of me. I never had to make a claim on my car insurance, although I did make a claim on the tyre insurance. When I called to claim, they at first denied they even did tyre insurance. I had to phone my husband to get the policy details so I could call them back. Most unhelpful and bordering on down right rude, when I could actually prove I did have the insurance. I then noticed my renewal notices were increasing, even though I had never made a claim on the car. Tried to speak to them, especially as I was buying other services from them, basically the message I got was "car insurance is expensive, tough".

So like most customers I voted with my feet and went elsewhere. OK maybe my money didn't matter, but carry on with this attitude and the AA will not be showing those obscure adverts on TV for much longer.
