Barclays Home Insurance

Barclays Home Insurance Challenge

Barclays Home Insurance has issued a price to challenge to customers, stating if someones current home insurance price can't be matched, it will match it and give the customer 25 when they switch.

The insurance already offers competitive rates, stating 60 per cent of its customers are saving with the provider, compared to other insurers' rates.

Now, its new price challenge is available to anyone, but only through its Barclays and Woolwich Branch Network.

For those wishing to take up the challenge, all it requires is a visit to a local branch of Barclays, taking along a copy of an existing policy.

A like-for-like quote will then be given, and if the existing policy is cheaper Barclays will "match the price" and give the customer a "Capital Bonds voucher for 25".

Barclays home insurance follows the same template as other high street banks: the insurance bit of its site is hidden in a dark corner, there's no online application form and you get marketing nonsense instead of any useful information.

Home insurance
Buildings insurance
Contents insurance
Accidental damage insurance
No online applications

The Barclays home insurance site does all the things we've come to expect from high street banks: it makes the relevant page of its site harder to find than an honest politician, doesn't bother with an online application form and instead of hard information about its policies wibbles on about falling trees, your house being a shell and how putting up bathroom shelves is "full of unforeseen terrors". We're not sure whether it's marketing blurb or if Barclays' Webmaster has been overdoing the Night Nurse.

Barclays home insurance does buildings, contents and accidental damage insurance, but if you want to know more you'll have to get on the phone. Or go somewhere else.

Like most home owners I tied my buildings and contents insurance in with the mortgage, only to find out among thousands of others that it is cheaper by finding one of your own. It is so eay to do. When you first apply for your mortgage and get your first home you are so cought up with things that you din't think of ways you could really be saving money.

It is ony because I have had the mssfortune to have made claims that I was forced to look else where, and found the big savings. My previous payments were roughly about £26.00 per month and a £50.00 Excess, which I guess is pretty standard to pay. However after having to make some claims my insurance premium shot up to £37.00 per month, not only that but the excess went up to a massive £500.00. I expected the premiums to go up but the excess was a no no. After shopping around I managed to find an insurance company that insured me for all the same cover at a premium of £25.00-£26.00 per month and a £50.00 excess. After all with a £500 excess you may as well pay for any damage yourself. In all honesty I hope I never have to claim again. But I would advise anyone who has their mortgage and insurance together to just take a look else where incase they too can save money, I know how easy it is to just get it all done in one place but a saving is a saving, and too many people make too much money from us as it is DON'T YOU AGREE!!! Try independant advisors who have access to hundreds of different insurers you should be able to get a good deal for yourselves somewhere.

There was an offer on the front of my Barclaycard statement which I got this morning.

"Home Insurance Price Guarantee

We'll save you money on your insurance or we'll beat it and pay you £50 when you switch. All you need is 2 years no claims. Offer may be withdrawn anytime. Conditions apply. Please call 0800 559 3944."

Doesn't really make sense - they'll beat it or they'll beat it and pay you £50!

My home insurance is with Halifax as well, don't expect they'll be able to beat it, I'll be giving Barclaycard a call for my £50 tomorrow!

I spoke to them today and apparently it's only valid for renewals, you have to be with your existing provider for 12 months before they'll price match. If their quote is more than your renewal they'll price match and give you £50 when you've switched.

When they do though it would be worth getting a quote for buildings and contents separately, you never know, might be able to get 2 x £50!!

Just made the switch a couple of weeks ago...still waiting for my cheque. Cant believe how easy it was a years insurance (buildings contents, accidental damage, cover for an expensive watch, legal cover) all for the equivalent of 174pounds - for a lrga e 4 bed detached that is not to bad!!!

Tried it with car insurance but their initial quote was so good it already beat my current provider (Norwich Union Direct)...never mind cant win them all!!
