Eagle Star are well-established motor and household insurers preferring standard drivers and vehicles with discounts for many company employees.
Eagle Star will only insure standard cars and drivers online- imports or modified cars are not accepted, and you will not be allowed insurance if you have more than two convictions (even fixed penalties). On the plus side, Eagle Star have discounted policies for over 150 major companies, so if you work for a corporate you might find a good deal here. You can also get a discount if you hold Eagle Star household insurance.
The form is detailed; but you can save and retrieve your quote if you want a break. You can also choose your voluntary excess and no-claims discount protection while watching the quote go up and down accordingly, which is useful. The quotes weren?t the most competitive, but this is an extremely reliable internet service.
For good drivers, one interesting option is "bonus for life" (at £30 or so) which protects your no-claims bonus permanently. Of course, this also means you have to stay with Eagle Star insurance.

On my third year with this company for my car insurance and have found them helpful on the phone and reasonably quick to respond.
The one gripe I have had and the reason for this review is that upon renewing my insurance cover at the beginning of my second year (after them being by far the cheapest the first year), their prices rocketed, needless to say i shopped around. Out of intrest I put my details on to the Eaglestar website for a quote online and their online quote for a new customer was a full £70 cheaper than my renewal notice offer. This again made them the cheapest out there and as I said I am happy with them apart from this strange policy. So worth a try on renewal.
I must point out that I have not had to make a claim. This review is based on my experiences as a new customer.
I have taken out their Gold policy, so will not comment on the Silver policy.
After being with my previous insurer for a decade, I decided to change after reading reviews from other people on this site about their shortfalls should I need to make a claim. I chose Eagle Star.
My initial contacts with Eagle Star went well, although I found them on the expensive side.
They offered a first call discount, valid for short period. This did not impress me as they should just quote a low price to start with.
You can join online at a discount, but I found it to be no cheaper than the discount I was offered over the telephone.
I felt that the customer service staff are in need of some additional training as they could not answer a few of my fairly routine questions. I ended up phoning their claims line for the answers that I sought who were very helpful indeed.
Eagle Star allows monthly payments, but at an unnecessary charge of 8%.
They do not offer extra discount for drivers who have passed an advanced driving test. However, they currently offer a discount for new drivers who have passed their Pass + exam, I believe this equates to one years no claims discount.
The Gold policy provides a courtesy car for the duration of repairs providing you use their authorised repair centres.
You can use your own specified repair centre, but they do not provide a courtesy car in this instance. However, most repair centres will provide a courtesy car for their customers ? check first.
Repairs carried out at their own centres are completed to a high standard so should not invalidate any manufacturers warranties - check if unsure as your local dealer may recommend an approved service centre nearby.
A courtesy car is provided for up to five days if your car is stolen or written off.
Basic roadside assistance comes as standard through Greenflag. This can be upgraded at a reasonable charge.
A very handy credit card size insurance certificate is provided (as well as the paper copy), which is accepted by the police and the Post Office.
No claims discount can be protected and Eagle Star also offer ?Bonus for Life? which protects your no claims for life, although this is an expensive option.
Motor Legal protection covers you for a grand sum of £100k and they also have a very good motor legal helpline.
The greatest drawback for me is that I cannot get insured with them for a few days (on fully comprehensive cover) on another vehicle. I used to be able to do this with my previous insurer for just a few pounds whenever required.
As with all good insurers Eagle Star are members of the General Insurance Standards Council. They may come in handy if a complaint needs to be made.
All in all Eagle Star offer a good policy, but are a little expensive.
