Endsleigh Home Insurance
About Endsleigh
Originally formed in 1965 by the National Union of Students, Endsleigh has since grown to become one of the largest high street insurance retailers in the UK.
Endsleigh continue to lead the market in the provision of insurance for students but have expanded to become the leading insurer for graduates and young professionals.
Endsleigh's highly-successful, three-year sponsorship deal with the Football League Championships between 1993 and 1996 has had a huge impact on the profile and level of awareness enjoyed by the company, making Endsleigh the household name it is today.
Endsleigh have invested in state-of-the-art technology providing them with all the underwriting and administrative sophistication that delivers the same cost savings and efficiency normally associated with direct insurers. However, Endsleigh's expanding network of retail outlets also provides a professional, friendly and localised service for their customers.
The company currently employs almost 1,000 staff nationally with around 350 based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, where the companies new £16m purpose built campus style corporate headquarters has been built.
Endsleigh Home Insurance
Endsleigh home insurance gets its policies from the usual panel of leading insurers, and has inked deals with various trade unions to cut the cost of insurance for members. The quotation form is long-winded but it's worth persevering with as premiums are low.
The quote form is very long-winded and takes eons to complete, but we found that the prices were worth it: our suburban family was quoted a very reasonable £177.61 for buildings and contents insurance.
Endsleigh home insurance has also inked deals with various trade unions to keep premiums low for their members, so if you're a card-carrying trade unionist you might be able to get an even lower quote.
Summary
Endsleigh home insurance offer probably the most competitive premiums available. They are particularly competitive in home insurance for students and young professionals and even have a specialised policy for those living in rented or shared accommodation.

Cat spewed in my video, washing machine flooded my utility and larder fridge toppled over (onto me!) which could have been a total disaster for me cost-wise but this contents policy really did prove to be worth its weight in gold and in my mind the best household contents cover I have ever taken out (and I admit to buying some less than good ones) -mainly in terms of the actual cover that it provides and the speed in which claims are dealt with and settled.
I live in the south east and my premium is £11.00 per month this covers:
1. £15,000. of house contents. Importantly this covers them from the usual elements:
Fire, smoke, storm, flood, riot, malicious persons, subsidence, escape of water, theft, impacts from vehicles or falling trees (both inside the home and within the garden or outbuildings) ** Unlike most other policies this policy also covers every item for ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE - which does cover a mulitude of possible accidents to your belongings everyday.
In addition to the conents themselves legal expenses are also covered to a ceiling of £25,000.
The claim procedure is a straightforward and simple exersize which I have found particularly expedient, handled by helpful, polite and considerate personnel:
1.Initial contact is made by telephone to the claims department directly to advise of the loss/damage, a claims form is then posted out, I have usually received mine the next morning.
2.The form itself is easy to complete with the actual details of how the item(s) were damaged etc what the original cost was and the replacement value.
3. With damaged items an engineer is normally appointed by the insurers to inspect the item(s)and report back, if the item(s)is irrepairable a replacement is ordered and delivered directly - this happended with both my video and larder-fridge, replacement was quick.
4. A £50 excess exists on my policy which means the first £50 is paid by you, but this from m y experience is standard in contents insurance policies.
No-one wants inadequate insurance cover particularly when an item of value has been lost, stolen or broken, but this cover is from my experience good cover that gives peace of mind - particularly when you happen to be someone as accident prone as 'yours truly'!!!
Having moved into a new (rented) flat, I needed to organise my contents insurance. So, I duly went online and got a number of instant quotes, all of which seemed fairly reasonable. Undecided about which to take up, I thought I'd mull it over for a while.
However, on arriving home I received a phonecall the very same evening from Endsleigh, following up my enquiry - this impressed me straight away (particularly as none of the other companies have ever contacted me).
The lady at the other end of the phone explained who she was, went through all the details I had provided on line to clarify them, asked a few more questions, then gave me details of the three best policies. She was extremely helpful and within 5 minutes cover was arranged.
It was far more comprehensive than I needed, but for only a small monthly payment I wasn't complaining!
All the relevant documentation arrived in the post within a couple of days and I've had no complaints so far!
I would definitely recommend giving Endsleigh insurance your consideration.
Endsleigh charged well over the odds for contents insurance in secure city centre flat. Premium was over £200 more expensive than many other companies.
May well be the only company who will insure students but professionals should shop around.
