My original contract with Budget Car Insurance went smoothly - it was a very cheap quote & I was quite satisfied with their service. Then I changed cars & got a quote in advance for the new one. However, when I actually tried to accept the quote, they increased the amount & denied all knowledge of the orginal quote. It was left up to me to send them proof of the quote & numerous calls to Customer Service (and believe me, it takes ages to get through to Customer Service!)
Eventually they refunded some of the amount after I insisted that they listen to their taped copy of the original quote (they record all sales quote conversations - obviously for any potential get-out clauses in case of a claim!!)
When it came to the renewal date the following year, I received a renewal quote letter but I was not impressed with them by then & looked elsewhere. However, I didnt read their very small print at the end of the letter which said that if I didnt want to reinsure with them, I had to let them know, otherwise they would automatically deduct the full premium from my account!! The first I knew of this "arrangement" was when the money was deducted from my bank account. What a shock! I'm still amazed that you can enter into a contract with a company purely by NOT contacting them to say "NO"! - your silence implies "YES"!
Anyway, another 9 months has passed & I have just rung to cancel and....guess what! They're going to deduct £35 cancellation fee in 5 days time....oh, and I'll get a refund for the remaining months sometime next month!!
