GM Platinum Credit Card

Introduction to the GM Platinum Card

The GM credit card is brought to you by the General Motors organisation and is underwritten by the HFC Bank. If you have never heard of General Motors before they are an American car manufacturer that also own the brand Vauxhall. The credit card is a Mastercard credit card, so you can be rest assured that the credit card will be accepted at most shopping outlets.

The GM credit card has some great introductory offers in the shape of 0% per annum on balance transfers and purchases fixed for five months from account opening (no fee will be charged during your 5 month introductory period). However, what the main point of this credit card seems to be the unique reward scheme. Reward points are earned every time that you use the card for purchases and extra points for buying from partners of the GM credit card. Earn enough points and you could save yourself up to £2,000 on your next Vauxhall car.

The more you review the GM Platinum Credit Card the more you begin to find yourself getting very excited about this card and starting to feel the urge to apply now.

As well as providing all of the usual benefits of a credit card, the GM Platinum card also offers another advantage in the form of collecting reward points that can be redeemed against the cost of a new Vauxhall car. When you first use your GM Platinum credit card you?ll receive 100 Rebate points (each point worth £1), then every £100 you spend with your card you?ll gain 3 more points. You could save yourself up to £2,500 off a new Vauxhall! Applicants can apply for a GM Platinum credit card online or over the phone, and cardholders can manage their credit card account online as well.

The site looks good and provides information regarding the benefits and advantages of the GM Platinum credit card. Once you have applied for the card you can track the status of your application online. If you?re looking to buy a new Vauxhall then this could be the credit card for you!

Are you looking to buy a new Vauxhall within the next three years? Do you regularly spend large amounts of money on a credit card? Do you repay the balance in full most months?

If you have answered yes to all the above questions, then the GM credit card could be a very attractive offer to consider. Whereas most rewards-based credit cards offer you a return of less than one pound for every £100 you spend, the GM card offers a generous rebate of up to 3%. However, while most cards give you a cashback deal or some form of loyalty bonus points, the GM platinum card enables you to gain a substantial reduction on the purchase of a new Vauxhall. As a point of merit, Vauxhall accept the GM Card discount in addition to any other reductions on offer, not just a discount on the full retail price.

The GM Platinum card is the only card in the UK with rewards points geared towards car purchases. However, as with any rewards scheme, the GM card requires heavy spending in order to make it worthwhile. To get a discount of £900 off a new Vauxhall, you would have to spend £10,000 each year on your GM card. If you spend these sums of money each year on a credit card, it is probable that you drive a more upmarket car.

It would be interesting to see if other car manufacturers introduced similar cards. For example, a credit card which offered a cashback discount on a prestige car, such as a BMW or Mercedes, might be a particularly popular card for wealthier individuals that are likely to benefit from rewards schemes.

Do you want to save a lot of money on your next car? I did, and at the end of last year saved £4000 off my new car - on top of the discount negotiated with the dealer. Even though UK prices are probably still higher than Europe, it meant I didn't need to leave the UK to get a bargain.

I managed to buy a car in the UK and get all the benefits with going through my local dealer. How did I do this? By having a GM visa card and using it for most of my purchases.

So how does it work? The GM visa now gives you 3% back towards any new Vauxhall car - a maximum of £2,500 can be saved over 5 years. You get 3 rebate points for every £100 spent on the card. These are not rounded up or down, so it really is a 3% rebate.

However, this could be DOUBLED by using your GM visa at the card's "Partners". In theory, it is possible to save £5,000. You can use any Vauxhall dealer of your choice.

The number of partners are limited, but the main partner I find most useful is Going Places. By using your GM visa at Going Places you get 6% back towards your next new car. This is a good incentive to spend your money on a holiday, knowing you're also saving towards a new car.

Other partners are Avis UK, Vauxhall Dealers or online at the GM card shopping site.

Once you have redeemed your points on a new Vauxhall, you'll get 200 "fast-start" points to get you going again. These are worth £200.

The card has all the usual features of a credit card, with an average APR.

Redeeming your points is easy - there's a number to telephone which is printed on your statement. And, the "rebate" is deducted from the price you pay for the vehicle, rather than being a cashback. This is a very useful cashflow benefit.

I got £1500 off several new Corsas but they have changed the rules since. Basically you spend on your GM Card and you get points per pound you can redeem points on a car, I think the more expensive the car the more points you can redeem. My best deal was a new Corsa on a 50:50 deal which cost me £5000 paid on my GM card with no extra for using the card. Instantly got enough points to buy my next new car with full discount
